Sadolin Superdec champions the personality of colour at Manchester International Festival

Sadolin Superdec helped set the tone for a major arts event in Manchester, which featured a vibrant display of colour.

The product was used to create the perfect platform for Festival Square, the ‘home in the heart of the city’ for the Manchester International Festival (MIF).

Picnic benches, bars and DJ booths which popped up in the vicinity were coated with a range of colours from the Sadolin Superdec range, creating an on-trend backdrop, supporting MIF’s position as one of the world’s most dynamic and respected arts festivals.

Students from the Manchester School of Art led the street design programme, building the furniture in a series of workshops before taking advantage of the opportunity to put their own personality into the display, choosing a range of colours and designs for the decoration.

Sadolin Superdec is renowned in the decorating industry for its superior self-priming finish and exceptional application, as well as its outstanding colour choice and longevity.

Used on various projects across the UK, including beach huts, Sadolin Superdec Satin is available in over 300 shades.

For Manchester International Festival, the students went for bold choices including Tundra, California Gold and Red Pepper, as well as Ponderosa Pine and Lapis Lazuli to deliver distinctive flashes of colour.

Gemma Saunders, Executive Coordinator of the bi-annual Manchester International Festival, said: “Around 125,000 people visited Festival Square during the 18 days we were open and this area provided a place where they could eat, drink, dance and relax.”

Sharon Smith, Crown Paints’ Trade Communication Manager, said: “This was a great way to showcase Sadolin Superdec and the end result looked superb.

“The product combines stunning colours with outstanding protection,

which together make it one of the most popular ranges within the Sadolin brand for the trade.

“It offers a highly durable opaque finish which erodes naturally by weathering, ensuring the coating remains flexible and resists cracking, peeling and flaking.

“This flexibility enables Sadolin Superdec to offer up to 10 years’ protection against the elements.

“The product is also self-priming and undercoating, thus reducing the need for an extra product on new wood. It also requires little preparation, and can be applied over previously decorated surfaces.”

As well as the creation of bright spaces with Sadolin Superdec, Crown Trade also donated products for the commission ‘Manchester Street Poem’ which featured musician Karl Hyde from the band Underworld painting words around the shell of a disused shop in the city.

Billed as one of the festival’s most high-profile events, Karl worked with people who have experience of homelessness to create the installation, using Crown Trade Matt Vinyl.
