Perfect 10 for Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year

Johnstone's Young Painter of the YearThe prestigious Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year competition celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and the leading paint brand is calling on the UK’s most talented young painters to showcase their skills on the biggest stage of all.

Entries are now being accepted for the annual event, which is open to painting and decorating students and apprentices across the UK who are working towards an NVQ Level 2 or Diploma in Construction Level 2.

The heats will be taking place here:

29th April – Doncaster College

1st May – Novus Property Solutions, Stoke

7th May – K College, Folkestone

13th May – Newcastle College

15th May – South Leicestershire College – SLC

21st May – Bournemouth and Poole College

28th May -Glasgow College, Scotland

30th May – Hugh Baird College, Liverpool

To mark the 10th anniversary, here are 10 reasons why you should enter the fantastic competition!

Regional pride – Regional heats will take place across the UK during the spring where you will have the chance to stake your claim as the finest young painter in your region.

Experience of working under pressure – Working to a detailed specification during the heats means working under pressure, giving you valuable experience for when you’re out on site and working on a ‘live’ project.

Tips and advice – Johnstone’s highly experienced technical experts, who are all established painters and decorators, will be on hand at every heat to pass on words of decorating wisdom.

Competitive edge – You will be up against the finest young painters in the country, so you can get your competitive juices flowing as you battle it out to be the best.

High-profile final – The grand final will take place over two days at the National Painting and Decorating Show at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena in November, where you will perform in front of over 2000 visitors.

Blockbusting prize haul – The overall winner will take home a prize haul worth up to £2000, which will include VIP tickets to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley and the prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year event. All entrants into the heats will receive an exclusive Johnstone’s goody bag.

Give your CV a boost – Employers are always on the lookout for someone with something extra, and having Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year entrant on your CV certainly gives you that!

Inspire future decorators – You can learn skills that can be passed onto the next generation of decorators, much like our 2008 and 2009 winner, Craig Martin, who now trains painting apprentices at property maintenance specialist, Novus Property Solutions.
