The regional heats of the 10th Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year competition have come to a scintillating close with the UK’s most talented young painters ensuring that it is one of the most incredible years in its history.

The competition, which showcases fresh new talent in the UK painting industry, has visited Doncaster, Stoke-on-Trent, Folkestone, Newcastle, Leicester, Bournemouth, Glasgow and Liverpool throughout April and May.

The winner from each heat will now go on to compete in the grand final at the National Painting and Decorating Show 2014 on 18th and 19th November at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.

Last year’s winner Jamie Oliver and runner-up Sam Clorley will again be in the final, going head-to-head with Joseph Rouski, Alicia Keefe, Gavin Tipping, Ryan Chamberlain,  Jonathan Wright and Scottish finalist Martin Owen for the coveted title of Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year 2014.

The winner of the Grand Final will receive a prize haul worth up to £2000, which includes VIP tickets to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final 2015 at Wembley and the prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year black tie event.

Each of the other finalists will receive a special prize package, while every single entrant into the heats walked away with an exclusive Fat Hog goody bag, packed with filling knives, a tape measure, a Duroc brush set and other decorating tools.

To make it to this stage the finalists had to demonstrate a wide range of skills, including their ability to work from a detailed specification, which involved marking out a complex design and applying Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Acrylic Durable Matt in light and bright colours.

Technical experts from PPG Extra were on hand to oversee the students’ work and provide expert advice and guidance.
