Crown Paints helps decorators make business sense of being green at the N P & D Show

Sustainability and the environment are major driving forces in shaping so much of what we do, from the manufacturer of fuel efficient cars, the construction of energy-efficient houses – even down to charting the air miles of the food we eat.

So what does this mean to the painting and decorating industry and – crucially – how can an awareness of green issues improve business?

At the N P and D Show at The Ricoh Arena on November 19 and 20, Crown Paints will be on hand to answer these questions, with a Sustainability Masterclass, helping decorators to understand the main themes – and how a knowledge of green facts can help win and retain business.

Debbie Orr, Crown Paints’ Marketing Manager, said: “Environmentally-conscious customers are increasingly looking for painting and decorating jobs in their home that balance green factors.

“Tendering for commercial projects – particularly in the public sector – also requires a working knowledge of sustainability.

“With this in mind, we have developed a masterclass at the N P and D Show, which will help painters and decorators gain a better understanding of environmental factors, and how they can positively influence their business.

“Those taking part will be issued with certificates of participation, to recognise their involvement in the training programme, as part of their professional development.”

Crown Paints is committed to a greener painting industry, without compromising on the quality of its products. The company is a UK national champion in the European Business Awards 2013/2014, was awarded Green Manufacturer of the Year earlier in the ‘Made In The North West’ awards – and is the 2012/13 holder of the British Coatings Federations Sustainable Innovation Award. It is also holder of the Sustainable Large Business of the Year accolade in the Lancashire Business Environment Awards., run by environmental charity Groundwork Pennine

The company is also able to measure the carbon footprint of all of its products and has met its targets of achieving zero waste to landfill.

Another area of Crown’s expertise is colour forecasting – and at the N P and D Show another masterclass will be taking place, demonstrating how shades should not just be confined to indoor spaces.

Sadolin Superdec is the leading choice for woodcare, which delivers inspirational shades as standard.

Offering the freedom to transform wood with colour, with over 300 shades available – and a formulation that safeguards wood for up to eight years – the product has been used on a variety of colourful projects across the UK, including beach huts in Bournemouth, which have been transformed under a phased programme using a variety of shades.

While most decorators are familiar with the usual woodtones in the Sadolin range, many don’t realise that we also offer many other inspirational shades – and choosing these colours in no way compromises the performance of the products

Sean Thompson, of Sadolin Technical Services, will be leading the demonstration.

The Colour With Sadolin Superdec demonstration takes place on Tuesday 19th at 12.30pm and the Sustainability Masterclass on Wednesday 20th at 10.00am.
