Our apprenticeship registration arm, the Scottish Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship Council (SPADAC), was established in 2009 at the request of the industry.
It is a partnership with CITB-ConstructionSkills and SQA and now registers 80% of CITB-ConstructionSkills’ apprentices in Scotland who undertake a Modern Apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating (P&D).
To register an apprentice visit www.spadac.co.uk or call us on 01786 448838.
P&D Modern Apprenticeship
This Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship Award is recognised by the P&D industry as the training programme all new entrants to the industry should strive to achieve.
SPADAC and the SDF negotiate wages for apprentices undertaking the SPADAC scheme and design the qualification with the SQA and CITB-ConstructionSkills.
The Award sets out the foundation in which P&D apprentices will progress their skills to meet the demands of the industry.
It covers all aspects of the trade in Scotland, ensuring that all apprentices are trained in health & safety, preparation and application of surfaces, wall coverings, spraying and decorative finishes. The Award also provides training in core and organisational skills.
New entrants are required to attend College in the first two years of theory apprenticeship and undertake a Skills Test in their last year (year 4).
To achieve the SVQ Level 3 certificate an apprentice must achieve all units in the training programme and successfully pass the Skills Test and the Health & Safety Test.
The SPADAC scheme is awarded jointly by SPADAC and SQA.
SQA Advanced Craft Certificate
The SQA Advanced Craft Certificate is an additional award that enhances the skills an apprentice has gained during the first two years of study at college.
It covers papering complex surfaces, applying decorative spray effects to metal leaf and complex powder and is normally undertaken in year 3 of an apprenticeship.
Coupled with the SVQ3, it gives a sound grounding to an apprentice’s knowledge of the P&D industry.
