The award was launched to coincide with the brand’s 125th anniversary this year and is designed to recognise decorating contractors’ positive impact on the communities in which they operate.
Bell Group saw off competition from Bagnalls, Novus Property Solutions, Ian Williams and R&M Williams – who were all highly commended – to claim the coveted title at a sparkling Johnstone’s Painter of the Year ceremony at Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.
During 2014, Bell Group held 27 events in schools and community centres focused on developing the skills of young people in terms of employment and professional development, as well as using 100% local labour on 82% of projects completed.
Tracy Brescia, national quality manager for Bell Group UK, said: “We are extremely proud to be the first recipients of the Johnstone’s Community Spirit Award. Being a family owned and operated business, supporting the communities where we work is very much a part of our core values and company culture. We take a great pride in ensuring the communities in which we operate feel a lasting positive benefit from our activities and receiving national recognition for our community work is the icing on the cake.”
Editors of respected industry titles LABM and HABM, Claire Clutten and Iain Aubisson respectively, sat on the judging panel and Claire said: “With social value now playing a vital role in the decision making of all local authorities and housing associations, it’s fantastic to see so many large contractors taking their commitment to the communities in which they work so seriously. We are delighted to work with Johnstone’s on this award. The standard of entries was exceptionally high and proves that the decorating industry is in good health.”
